In an article published by NeoFeed, partner Camila Ohno, a member of Pinheiro Guimarães’ Banking and the Capital and Financial Markets and Investment Funds team, discussed the move by Brazilian companies toward China’s panda bond market, which consists of yuan bonds issued in China by foreign issuers. The article highlights the first deals completed and announced by Brazilian companies in this market and also covers the National Treasury’s plans for a potential sovereign issuance.
Camila Ohno noted that other Brazilian companies have also been considering the instrument and that demand for information about this market has increased. She pointed out, however, that this does not mean new issuances are imminent.
“This year, I’d say we’ve seen much more interest from companies wanting to understand how it works so they can possibly prepare to issue panda bonds,” she said. “Companies want to better understand how to access the market and what adjustments they need to make before issuing.”
